“Bismillah hir Rahman Nir Raheem Was Salatu Was Salam ‘Ala Rasulillah. Alhamdulillah, Allah SWT blessed me with the opportunity to visit His Home in Makkah. Allah SWT blessed me with the opportunity to visit the Best of His Creation in the City of Lights, the City of the Prophet, SAW. I was quite pleasantly surprised with the entire experience. First of all, I have to thank Allah SWT for this great bounty and favour He bestowed upon me, as I am not worthy of it. I also have to thank the staff of Imam Ghazali Institute and its founder, Imam Zameer for facilitating such an experience. I got exactly what I wanted from this Sacred Knowledge Retreat and much more. For anyone that has sat at the feet of Shaykh Muhammad al-Yaqoubi [one of the teachers at the Dawrah program], may Allah preserve him, they will know exaclty what I mean when I say that I am at a loss of words to describe the experience. Truly, it is something that can only be felt, and you can’t read about it any book. He is a living embodiment of the sunnah of the Prophet SAW. To learn about adab and the virtues of salawat from Shaykh Faisal Abdur-Razzaq, was another uplifting experience. Shaykh Faisal really took the time to make sure everyone’s questions were answered at a level they could relate to, and that is something everyone really appreciates. Perhaps what really was amazing about the whole trip, was our visit to traditional ‘ulema in Makkah, and Madinah. ‘Ulema that are connected to the traditions of the Prophet SAW and the saliheen. I could have never thought in my life that I would meet the Shaykh of the tribe which was entrusted with the Keys to the Holy Sanctuary, the Ka’ba. Not only did I sit with him, and get a chance listen to him, but I was also favoured by his du’a. He also gave all the students advice on healing, as he is an expert in Prophetic Medicine. To sum up, the Dawrah Sacred Knowledge Retreat was much more than an ‘umrah trip. It was much more than a purely “knowledge” retreat. It was a lot about practice, and a lot about reviving and boosting our level of Iman. Once again, I am indebted to Allah SWT, whom we can’t truly ever thank. And I pray that He allows me to participate on this trip again. And I also make du’a to Allah SWT, that He grants the same opportunity to those who were unable to attend to go next year, inshaAllah. ”

“The trip was one to remember for life, the people were of varying backrounds and excellent company. Everything was provided for with the organisers of unusual generosity. The accomdation was very good and food of equal standard. The organisers set an excellent balance for education, entertainment and ziyarah. It was surprising in that the people we came to meet came to meet. Seeing these people was enough of a reason to travel to Hijaz and Shaam. A trip to cherish. ”

“Alhamdulillah! We arrived in Makkah first, did ‘Umrah, then left immediately for Madinah, which we stayed for around 3 days…after that we left for Makkah, performing ‘Umrah for the second time, and staying for like 4 days. In Makkah, we visited the Grand Shaykh Maliki, and had a good load of time to spend in the Haram, as well as in Madinah. We saw many historical sights in both cities which included the grave of Khadija (RA), Janatul Baqi (toured by Shaykh Mahmood)the birthplace of the Prophet (SAW), Jabal al Noor and Cave Hira, being attacked by monkeys in Cave Hira…we saw all the important Masajid, like the Dhul Qiblatain, Masjid Quba, the place where the seven masajid were and are being restored at the moment, the first masjid in Madinah established by the Prophet (SAW) …Then we left Hijaz after Makkah, and departed for Jordan, where we stayed for 2 days. Basically doing sightseeing, we saw the cave of the seven sleepers, the King Abdullah Masjid, the Masjid over the Sea…then we left for the most important place in accordance with our learning the Deen, Sham. In Sham, we visited many graves, including the grave of Prophet Yahya in the Umayyad Masjid, the grave of Bilal (RA), and a lot of Ahlul Bait. We visited Masjid Khalid bin Al Waleed, where we saw his grave (RA). We also saw the kingdom of Zenobia and we visited a…castle that was built before the Crusades. Most importantly, we visited numerous shuyookh from Sham and benefited immensely from them. The Shuyookh include Shaykh Mahmood (whom we saw in hijaz also), Shaykh Abol Khair (Usool al Fiqh), Shaykh Muhammad Yaqoubi (Aqeedah at-Tahawiyya), Shaykh Shahada, Shaykh Rajab Deeb, Shaykh Shukri, Shaikh Hamami, etc. We learned the Arba’een Ahadith by Shaykh Abdullah, we learned Shamaa’il at Tirmidhi and Maqamat Salawat by Shaykh Faisal from Toronto. The food…was amazing. ”
